Last week-end we made a quick visit up to the farm to see Dad and Grandma & Grandpa Rice. Chuck and I went up Friday night, then Angela & Mike and Erica and Dave came up on Saturday. We had a big meal and did a lot of sitting around digesting. Grandpa had just gotten two little kittens, one was orange and white and one was a grey striped tabby. Angela named them Peaches and Herb. I named them Itchy and Scratchy. They were pretty wild but we were able to catch them and tame them down a bit.
On the way home, we stopped over at the "Other Place". When my Grandpa Summers was alive he owned this farm which had belonged to his grandfather, Andrew Jackson Summers. The farm has been in the family over 100 years. Anyway, since my Grandpa lived several miles from this farm it was always referred to as "the other place". I wanted to pick up some rocks for a goldfish pond that Chuck is building for me. It was quite an adventure to make it down to the creek. Angela, Mike and I were all sure Chuck would get stuck but he managed to make it without incident. I was able to find a few rocks and Angela & I also dug up some daylilies to take home for our gardens. They are very unusual. They have a sort of double flower bloom, some are orange and others are yellow. I assume they were originally planted around the house by some relative and have since spread. I was trying to find a particular spot I always remembered visiting as a kid, where we used to swim. I thought it was just a little ways down the road from the house on the left side of the road. I remember there being a crossing and an abandoned car a little ways down the creek. I couldn't find the crossing at all. Everything has changed so much and is so overgrown.
