Mom, Jade and I recently visited the Old Prairie Town at Ward Meade Park in Topeka. The area began as a family farm on the Oregon Trail in 1854 (the family charged 75 cents to ferry wagons across the Kansas River and became very wealthy). The Paek includes the Ward-Meade Victorian Mansion, the original log home, turn of the century town including drug store, train station, stable, doctor office, one room school house , church and a 2.5 acre botanical garden. We took a tour of the mansion and several of the buildings with a retired professor as our guide. We also had old fashioned sodas and ice cream at the drug store.
The park is a popular place to take Senior Pictures. To read more about Ward Meade Park, visit http://www.washburn.edu/cas/art/cyoho/archive/AroundTopeka/ward-meade/
