What a difference a day can make

I took these sunset pictures yesterday (Fri. 12/21/07) at Lake Shawnee about 5pm.
The high yesterday was 59 degrees. It felt very warm.

Note the cirrocumulus clouds above (they appear rippled). They are high altitude clouds usually seen in winter that indicate fair but cold weather. These types of clouds are made up of ice crystals instead of water.

I took this picture about 10am this morning (17 hours after the above pictures) of snow blowing across the ice.

Looking down our street around noon today.

When we left the house at 9am it wasn't even snowing. I took this picture on the way home, about 11:30am. I have never seen such heavy snow. Note how strong the wind was blowing--this definitely qualified as a "blizzard".

I took this picture through the windshield driving home around 11am this morning.. It took us about 45 minutes to make what is usually a 10 minute trip. Visibility was close to zero.

I call this picture "ER". I figure it will save time to be able to just flash this photo when I'm asked, "What was your husband doing right before the heart attack".

We measured the snow in the driveway at 6 inches. I took these pictures while Chuck was shoveling snow about 4pm this afternoon.

It started snowing around 10am this morning and isn't supposed to stop until around 9pm. We already have 6-7 inches on the ground. This morning, it was actually thundering and lightening while snowing heavily. This rare phenomenon is called a "thunder snow" and indicates a very strong storm with heavy snow. Here's a video I took from our garage when we got back home about noon:
