Valdez annually receives over 300 inches of snow a year. By comparison, Buffalo, New York barely receives 100 inches. Some years Valdez has received 500-600 inches of snow.

Valdez, Alaska
Valdez is located on Prince William Sound and is the Northern most ice-free port in North America. The terminus for the pipeline is located in Valdez which has a population of around 4,000 people.
The 1964 "Good Friday" earthquake measuring 9.2 on the Richter scale occurred about 55 miles west of Valdez and was the second strongest earthquake of the 20th Century. The tsunami which followed killed many more people than the earthquake. For more info visit:

25 years later, in 1989 the Exxon Valdez spilled almost 11 million gallons of oil about 25 miles from Valdez. Due to Exxon's slowness to respond, about 1500 miles of coastline were contaminated. For more info visit:
